A Senate committee approved a hotly debated bill yesterday that would allow up to three resort casinos in Florida and slot machines at pari-mutuel facilities throughout the state, CBS News reported.
The bill, which still has to make it through the full Senate and House, would permit up to three resort casinos to be built as part of mixed-use developments. The facilities would include such amenities as restaurants, shopping and convention facilities. According to the News Service of Florida, the Regulated Industries Committee approved the bill 7-3.
“Now, I think people are going to wake up tomorrow and realize the threat is real,” said Mark Wilson, president of the Florida Chamber of Commerce, which opposes the bill. [CBS]
