In another sign that Miami is an emerging hub for sciences, construction is slated to begin next on the new, LEED-certified Miami Science Center museum, according to Earth Techling, and is preparing for an early 2015 opening date.
The $275 million, 250,000-square-foot project will be built designed by Grimshaw architects on Park West at Bicentennial Park in downtown Miami next to the Miami Art Museum. It will have a 600,000-gallon aquarium, a 3D planetarium, hands-on exhibits, classrooms and cafes.
The museum was approved by voters in 2004, and Miami-Dade will contribute about $175 million with the remaining funds coming from private donations. [EarthTechling]
